Signs It’s Time to Seek Help for Your Addiction

woman in blue long sleeve shirt

All too often, people suffering from substance abuse, whether drugs or alcohol, they don’t see rock bottom coming. Recalling their accounts, it’s a common story to be told that they were surprised to wake up one day and suddenly realize the truth about the situation.

By then, usually, they would have already lost a lot about their old life: relationships with family and friends, jobs, possessions, or even a home. No matter how different these stories start out, however, what is certain is that this descent to rock bottom did not happen overnight. This would have been a steady decline, some faster than others, with plenty of red flags coming up along the way.

If you think you’re currently on this descent, but are still aware enough to want to do something about it, or if you think you could be someone who would need help sooner or later, here are some telltale signs you could keep an eye out for.

You Experience Withdrawal Symptoms

It starts out benign enough. You drink a glass of wine or a bottle of beer before going to bed. It’s healthy enough in moderation anyway, right? But then something happens and that one serving suddenly increases to two more, three more.

If it’s drugs, the escalation may come in the form of needing more doses, or popping a pill more frequently.

Whichever substance it is, you need to look out for withdrawal symptoms. If you find yourself having an intense craving for alcohol or drugs, if you begin feeling withdrawn from your usual social circle and instead prefer to be alone so you can be free to drink alcohol or do drugs, or if you find that your normal dose isn’t doing anything for you anymore so you feel the need to increase it, then you’re going through withdrawal.

Mood swings, irritability, anger, arising health issues, increased frequency of use or intake over time, self-harm, or endangerment of others are also some other signs of withdrawal.

Impact on Family, Friends, Career

It’s usually the people around you who would first notice the changes or the withdrawal symptoms. This is because you’re acting differently from your usual behavior.

You may start flaking out on your plans with them more frequently, or you’re lashing out at them for no reason. You could be slipping at work, coming in late, missing deadlines, being sloppy with your tasks.

By this time, your dependency has gotten to a point where you can no longer hide the effects it has on you, although you may still be able to hide definitive evidence that you are indeed abusing the substance.

Desire to Stop but Inability to Do So

In certain cases, it’s possible that you have particularly high self-awareness, which means that you do recognize the journey you’re on at the moment. There might even be a strong desire to turn things around, seeing how your substance use and abuse have been affecting your daily life and your personal relationships.

Attempts at quitting cold turkey are common, and failing at it especially so. That’s because people tend to underestimate just how deep an addiction they already have, while at the same time overestimating their ability to handle it.

In this case, it’s much better for you to seek professional help from centers like Gallus Medical Detox Centers (https://www.gallusdetox.com/). These facilities have treatment programs that can address your issues, and could even provide a custom-fit treatment for you, depending on the factors surrounding your condition.

A Doctor’s Day

What’s your favorite television medical show? Do you go for something light like “Scrubs” or “Doogie Howser, MD?” Maybe you’re all about the drama and you love “ER,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “House” and “Nurse Jackie.” Who could forget “M*A*S*H” with its mix of comedy and drama that made it speak uniquely to so many? Ask anyone in the healthcare profession and you’ll discover that our favorite medical TV shows get a lot right – and a lot wrong. Take being a doctor, for example. It’s not all sarcastic quips like Alan Alda delivered as Captain Hawkeye Pierce or stellar dance routines ala Donald Faison as Turk. You’ll need to look to someone more like Rachel Tobin Yale class of 2015 to discover what a doctor’s true day looks like.

Regularly Scheduled Program

There’s no such thing. A doctor’s day hinges on so many different variables. First, has the doctor finished residency? Doctors still in their residency program work long hours in any number of different locations and medical specialties depending on their assignments. Often, you’ll find residents crashed out asleep while on duty in the hospital because they simply don’t have time to go home to get their needed rest before they report for their next shift. Surgeons can work an average of 60 hours a week, depending on whether they’re on-call and what emergency surgeries arise. Primary care physicians can expect to log almost the same, while specialists have a more normalized schedule of around 45 average hours per week.

What’s in It for Me?

Where a doctor works makes a huge impact on their day, as well. As you can imagine, a surgeon in an urban location logs more time on the clock than a local physician in a small town. While each position has its’ drawbacks, they have benefits as well. Most people in any part of the medical field will tell you a big part of the reason they do what they’ve chosen to do is they want to help people. Admirable, yes, but the desire to help and make a positive difference in others’ lives feeds part of their souls. A busy, urban surgeon gets satisfaction from a well-performed surgery. That small-town doctor enjoys getting to know his or her patients beyond just their immediate medical concerns. Oncologists may use their profession as a way to honor someone in their lives who fought cancer. Physical therapists celebrate each time a patient reaches a personal milestone.

The medical profession is challenging, but also very rewarding.

4 Uses for Botox Beyond Cosmetic Purposes

When most people think about getting Botox service in Manhattan they associated it with a way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, Botox can be used for much more than simply reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Botox is quickly becoming the ideal solution for a wide range of conditions other than cosmetic purposes. For instance, people have reported relief from a number of debilitating conditions, such as muscle spasms and chronic pain. Here are just a few of the most common conditions that Botox can treat.;

Chronic Migraine Headaches

If you suffer from migraines, you know how unbearable and debilitating the pain can be. A migraine is more than a simple headache; they can interfere with your vision, make you nauseous, and leave you wanting to stay in bed for a full day or even longer for some. Botox is extremely beneficial for relieving the symptoms associated with migraines.

The Botox toxin is thought to disrupt the pain signals as they are being sent to your brain, which relaxes the muscles in the area of your pain. The results are the reduction or elimination of the symptoms of a migraine.

Bell’s Palsy

Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes nerve paralysis on one half of the face, causing the face to droop. It is caused by the stimulation of a specific cranial nerve. It may occur during pregnancy, if you have diabetes, or following the transmission of certain viruses, such as Lyme disease. Bell’s palsy is generally a temporary condition and it can occur when you least expect it.

Although it is temporary, Botox can help to relax the paralyzed facial muscles that have been affected by the condition, which helps to aid in recovery.

Muscle Spasms

Unfortunately, muscle spasms are an extremely common complication of certain muscle conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis causes nerve damage in the body, which in turn causes the nerves to send signals to the muscles and limbs causing them to move involuntarily.

Studies have shown that Botox blocks a chemical in the body known as acetylcholine, which transports nerve signals. So, by blocking the chemical, it helps to relax the muscles and reduce or eliminate muscle spasms.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Sweating is natural; in fact,  your body needs to sweat in order to maintain a healthy body temperature. Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating can be embarrassing and in extreme cases, may lead to dehydration due to the heavy loss of sweat. Research has shown that Botox injections are an effective and safe treatment for excessive sweating.

Botox treatments will not prevent your body from sweating 100%, but it will prevent excessive sweating while allowing your body to sweat a normal amount in order to retain body temperature.

It’s important to keep in mind that the effects of Botox vary from one person to the next. Whether used for cosmetic purposes or medical purposes, Botox typically wears off in about 3-4 months, so it is only a temporary solution. However, in most situations, Botox injections can be done again. There are generally no side effects, but you may experience slight redness or swelling that generally dissipates in a day or two following treatment.

What In the Health

The last ten months have been such a whirlwind for our family. Our move last August threw such a wrench in our normal operations from my kids acclimating to new schools, The Chad settling into and operating in a new, high level, position at work, and my overall operation. I tended to take on the majority of the stress for my family, I wanted to ensure that they would fall back into some formal of normalcy, despite moving 2000 miles away from everything we knew for the past 14 years. In taking on all my family’s stress, I had my own stress that I was not dealing with, emotionally, physically and mentally. Despite my trips to the gym and processing what I could, I had not dealt with the negativity of past relationships that I had severed (as they no longer served me or my family), the loss of my close friends and family, and being alone in a state where I knew no one. What I did not know was that all of this stress, coupled with the stress my body was put through with my weight loss journey would be a perfect storm for my health.
