Do you recall your last date night OUT of the house? Do you know the last time you actually HIRED someone to watch your children? Pets while on vacation? Or maybe even hire a housekeeper to take a stay-cation from housework?

As a mother I have a hard time finding a sitter for my kids. Even when our kids were just THE kid (Grant) finding a sitter to keep up with his high energy and could be responsible was rather difficult. We have a pool and even though the pool is locked and no one can access but The Chad and I we would carry a heavy conscience with “strangers” watching our children with a pool. I relied heavily on my mother and to some degree I still do rely heavily on her to watch my children when I ask. I trust her fully. She is ACLS certified so CPR has got nothing on her, not to mention she is grandma, so the kids love when Grandma Sandy comes over.

Now that the twins are not infants and I am not breastfeeding The Chad and I would like to do a lot more as a couple. Date night, a movie, shopping, or just a break from the kids to gather our sanity. We tried an online sitter service before and the process was awful. Interviewing children (13+ year olds) basically to watch my children. Children should not be watching other children. PERIOD! A hormonal teenager does not have their wits or right mind about them to watch a toddler and a six year old.

Get Some Satisfaction

Fragrance

I am channeling Mick Jagger right now…some Keith Richards…because ladies and gentleman. For the first time in over a DECADE. Yes I said 10 years people, big news okay. The first time in over a decade JOVAN has released a new fragrance and the name of the fragrance, so aptly named: SATISFACTION (For Her and For Him).

The Chad and I received a sample bottle to try each and while I was hesitant to try the fragrance, I thought to myself, DO IT. The smell is tantalizing. Reminds me of a warm summer night. The men’s fragrance…I am very particular on men’s fragrances and this one gave me a tingle. The Chad said reminded him of high school….should I be worried? He did have a fondness for high school and drove a motor-home to school, okay enough of that, moving on.

Fragrance

JOVAN Satisfaction for her contains the sweet smells of mango, lotus flower and warm vanilla while the scent for him contains cedarwood, cardamom, grapefruit, and amber. RAWR! These fragrances just hit the shelves at your favorite retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, CVS) last month and are available in a 1.0 ounce Eau de Toillete spray for $18 or $12 for the 0.5 ounce bottle.

But if you want…and I know you really want to, you can enter to win the set of fragrances in the 0.5 ounce bottle size right here. On this blog. Here is your first entry:

Tell me your satisfactions, could be anything, everything, let’s hear it!

Legoland Adventure

Spring break starts for so many families right about this time of year. Our family wanted and needed to take a vacation. BADLY! We wanted to go somewhere within driving distance, preferably near the ocean, and definitely not any place cold. Clearly the only choice is and was sunny Southern California. The next option was what theme park or entertainment would we arrange for the kids so they could lose their silly minds? We thought about the “traditional” theme park and were dissatisfied with the fact that the entire family would not be able to enjoy the fun.

Until I researched Legoland. Can I tell you that Legoland is THE best choice for kids ages two(2) to oh let’s say probably 13. I scouted the park out virtually through their interactive website and saw all the activities directed specifically for kids. Shows, rides, characters to take photos, play areas with splash pads (water play), playground areas for tots, and let us not forget the almighty roller coaster!

I think that was the best part of the park for myself, The Chad, and Grant was that we could all ride the coasters. He was tall enough to ride by himself and even if he wasn’t, as long as he had a friend or adult tall enough to ride they could go together allowing him to enjoy all the fun. How super cool is that idea? The twins were much the same as well for the rides. Because they are 36 inches tall they could ride a good majority of the rides, but some, and definitely not the coasters, they could ride with The Chad or myself. The first traditional fun ride that Grant went on with The Chad was Aqua Zone and it is THE very first ride you see when you head into Imagination Zone from the entrance.

I personally LOVED this ride because of the spectator involvement. On the platform that overlooks the ride you see six colorful posts with buttons. Little did I know those buttons control air cannons that spout off water in a high powered blast to the wave riders of Aqua Zone. So another mother and I were watching our boys and we decided to gang up on them and fire off as many cannons as fast as we could and as fast as they would recharge. Needless to say we soaked our families and a few others and I was laughing so hard my ribs hurt.

What we really enjoyed about the rides and the entire park is that Legoland reminded us of the biggest carnival that merged with a super cool theme park, minus all the ugly creepy carnies seen at a carnival.

Also do not think that Legoland is just for “boys” because this theme park is a hidden treasure for girls. After taking Grant on his very first roller coaster which was the Lego Technic, which was awesome as he cried in fear and The Chad had to calm him. AWESOME! We headed up the hill from The Imagination Zone into Castle Hill and I started to lose my mind with Sara as we saw princess dresses and face painting. Now this is NOT your typical face painting, imagine your entire face as a canvas of beautiful, girly, glittery color.

More coasters awaited as Grant and The Chad went on The Dragon coaster and I took the twins over to Explore Village and Playtown as they were getting fairly antsy to play themselves. We went on the Legoland Express…SEVERAL times, raced down the slides, played with the Duplo blocks and raced down the slides again. The two of them were having such a ball that I did not think that taking them on any more rides would top the fun they were having at Playtown. I could not stop snapping pictures of them playing with all the fun they were having. Because really this trip and the park is made for kids the same age as my kids. The age where everything is new and full of imagination. After about the 100th time on the Legoland Express and I noticed that the sky began to grow a bit darker we moseyed our way back to the entrance of the park where we enjoyed some quiet fun and relaxation.

Legoland has the Sea Life Aquarium attached to the park and can I tell you…AWESOME! The perfect way to end an exciting fun filled day of rides and running around is by walking through the dimly lit aquatic paths where you feel like you are actually swimming with the fish.

The aquarium is all indoor and truly amazing. The sea life is plentiful and many of the exhibits are right out of the California landscape and they are replicated in a way to mimic the movement of the tides and water at the shore and sea level. Truly fascinating. We wound our way around to a room where we were completely surrounded by fish! The kids were in awe. We were in awe. Again the experience was breathtaking and relaxing. We walked some more where we came upon an area that resembled what would look like an above ground tide pool and a wonderful gentleman who urged us to touch and play with the sea life. Well I could not resist the temptation and began my sea exploration of touching starfish, sea stars, sea cucumbers, which are the COOLEST to touch based on how they look. Grant, the chicken that he is, we coaxed (forced his hand really) into the water to touch and feel as well. Just a really neat experience and very educational.

Legoland in our “fishy” opinion is GRADE A the best for kids. The park is eco-friendly (lots of recycling), far from crowded, has a really great atmosphere, no waiting in lines, the staff is exceptionally easy breezy. Considering that our kids almost got us removed from the park. Just look at them…failing to follow the rules:

Yes all three of the kids…going head first down the slides. In fact Grant was chased by the staff for failing to sit on his behind while going on the Dune Raiders slide.

Way to go guys!

Needless to say if we lived in California we would definitely invest in the yearly membership for our kids to visit Legoland as often as possible. Now that we also know how much fun they had we will be sure to plan more trips and include Legoland in our fun. Thank you so much to the staff of Legoland for a wonderful experience.

*The Five Fish received complimentary media passes to Legoland which were a one day park hopper that included admission for four to Legoland and the Sea Life Aquarium.

Dove for Men

Body Bar

Ladies have you been victim to the disappearing health and beauty products and you do not have daughters or a daughter old enough to enjoy such pleasures? The wonderful shower gel or body sugar you have to pamper yourself for those measly 15 minutes before venturing back into the big bad world of motherhood or even the working world for that matter. Well I know one year I splurged and got the ENTIRE Victoria’s Secret Body by Victoria spa set that included a body shower gel, body sugar (scrub), after shower lotion spritz and body moisturizer. Heaven in a few bottles I tell you.

Until I noticed that slowly but surely my products began to dwindle. My bottles of heaven were not as full as they once were and I KNOW that I was NOT using the products that often. They were my special treat to myself after a long day or to feel ever so feminine that morning. One day the man finally fessed up. He whole heartedly admitted to using MY products. At that time I knew he needed some TLC just as I did.

Body BarFabulously enough the folks at Dove have realized what my husband and I have realized. Men are comfortable with themselves and want to be comfortable in their own skin as well. The new line by Dove is the Dove Men + Care and the soaps and body washes are truly amazing. The technology in the soap process helps to combat dryness, provide gentle yet thorough cleansing that your man (or you men) desire.

The Chad received a package to review of the Dove Men + Care line and when I opened the package I did not want to stop taking in the wonderful aroma of the product. Truly a wonderful and invigorating smell. Strong and musky like a man, but aromatic and a light citrus, almost dare I say floral scent, wonderfully complimentary to any man. While I urged him to use it (like at that moment) he said that night he would try out the new product.

Well my patience could not wait…so I tried the soaps out for myself. What the heck right? He slathered up in Victoria’s Secret why not suds up myself in his body wash? So I tried the body bar and I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoy the Dove brands but I have to say that the men’s bar is MUCH more moisturizing than the standard Dove bars of soap. The scent was light as well, not a heavy perfume as some other mens and standard soap brands. So what did The Chad have to say, “I really like it…nice, not drying, its cool.” Man approved ladies!

Even more, men can share their unsung moments to where they finally reached this comfortable point in their lives from childhood to manhood to fatherhood. Share all your men’s unsung moments with Dove and enjoy the “Manthem.” But the fun does not stop there, enter to win your very own Dove Men + Care body wash and body bar. Here is how:

Tell me your man’s unsung moments or the moment when you knew or when he showed he was comfortable in his own skin. (You must do this before ANY other entries are accepted)

Celtic Woman

Music is so much a part of my life as well as my children’s; for learning, play, and basic entertainment. While I pride myself as a music aficionado I admit that some music was out of my league. So when I got an email saying “Hold your horses and be open minded” I thought I really need to hear this.

Mind you I am very open minded, but when I saw the name of the band I cringed in fear. I received a Celtic CD as a gift some years back and really I needed to be in the right mood and or just gift the CD away. But with Celtic Woman Songs from the Heart I was so pleasantly surprised at the sound of traditional Celtic harmony with a modern day spin. Beautiful sounds were echoing through my speakers as I heard the familiar sound of the lyrics to Fields of Gold…sigh…and swoon to my heartthrob Sting.

I then moved onto the next song in the play list Amazing Grace with full bagpipes. I was bawling like anyone would who loves the sound of Amazing Grace in bagpipes. Next was Níl Sé’n Lá and was blown away at the beauty of the song. Soulful, sweet, and soothing. Now fast forward to O’ America and the song screams nationalism, country pride, and you can feel the red, white and blue pulsing through your veins.

Please go listen to them and watch these ladies on YouTube to see how beautiful they are when they perform. I know I am excited to see their show here in Tempe in May at Gammage Auditorium; the timing couldn’t be more perfect as well as I take my mother to the concert for Mother’s Day. I cannot wait to post about the show and the feeling of being in the audience with their performance. Oh did I forget to mention they are on tour?! Yes. You can see these talented ladies LIVE in a city near you with their list of SOLD OUT tours or download their CD on iTunes or even better…enter to win Celtic Woman Songs from the Heart LIVE concert DVD. Just as if you are right there in the audience.

To enter tell me what kind of music do you listen to and are you open to music like Celtic Woman? What city would they be touring near you?

Oral Health Giveaway

Tis the cold season for cold sores chapped lips canker sores and dry mouth. Did you know that “60 million people get cold sores annually” (Lip Clear, 2010)? “Canker sores can last anywhere from seven to 21 days” (Canker Cover, 2010)? Staggering right!? I also read that if you take more than three medications you are more than likely to suffer from dry mouth which can result in poor oral health due to lack of moisture.

Well here are three products to help improve your overall oral health and you can win them right here!

Canker sore protection

Cold Sore Treatment – Lip Clear Lysine +

LIP CLEAR Lysine+ is said to reduce the duration of cold sores by 50% and the average healing time was roughly four days. Even though there is no cure for cold sores, (herpes simplex virus) you definitely want to be able to treat them and make life a little less irritating. You can even wear this product under your favorite chap stick and lipstick and does not burn; where other products burn to tell you it is working.

Canker Cover

Canker Cover Canker Sore Patch helps to relieve the pain inside your mouth from those pesky sores. Canker sores can be caused from various factors such as stress, lowered immunity, (due to illness or otherwise) trauma, vitamin deficiencies, hormones, and more. So to ease the pain and increase the heal time the folks at Quantum Health bring you Canker Cover. Apply the gel, allow to set, and if needed reapply in 24 hours. Canker Cover is edible and safe to use while protecting from the elements (food, teeth, tongue) that may further agitate the sore.

OraMoist Dry Mouth Patch

Living in Arizona everything is VERY dry. Dry heat. Dry skin. Your clothes and hair are dry in a matter of minutes in the summer. So a dry mouth is also a problem. A problem also for those who suffer from taking prescription medication which can reduce your saliva and moisture. The dry mouth patch is easy to use too, just place on the roof of your mouth and you are set for increased moisture. I will have to say that the OraMoist patch did have a strong, sour taste almost as if I was eating a lemon drop which did cause my salivary glands to go into overtime to which I had to spit the thing out. But I also don’t suffer from dry mouth so this was a bit of overload for me.

WIN IT!! Win all three or win one or win all three by telling me if you suffer from any of these three, know anyone that does and how they could help you or would be worth a try since you have tried everything.

Organizing The Junk Drawer Rubbermaid

With all of my OCD tendencies, having order among a house of chaos, you would think that my junk drawer would have been tackled like a running back. Oh no…my junk drawer multiplied, literally, I believe that it spawned a cousin or something.

In my kitchen I have two drawers of silverware depending on where I am standing in the kitchen so I am assuming that my junk drawer figured as much too. Well she is standing here lets toss everything in this drawer and when you are yonder we can throw it in there. Not so much.

So the wonderful folks at Rubbermaid contacted to me to receive and review their six piece, interlocking drawer organizer set. Now I contemplated using the set for organizing all of my kitchen utensils since they are a smorgasbord of disorganized happiness but I knew that I had two drawers in my kitchen screaming the help of Rubbermaid.

Take a gander at what a slob I am….(see I admit failure….failure to be completely OCD 100% of the time):

Look at all of that JUNK! Wet towelettes, toothpicks, batteries, pot holders and mits, rubberbands OH MY!

Now here is what my fabulous drawers look like after unloading all of the contents on my counter and organizing “the stuff” with the help of these great tips:

What is super awesome is that these trays have special feet to help stabilize them so they do not shift and moe around in your drawers like traditional organizers. What else did you expect from Rubbermaid? Plus with the various tray sizes you can configure your organization which ever way you want. Like in my drawers I split up the trays to effectively organize all my junk like my batteries for my kids toys, the candles for the many birthdays we have and will celebrate, the toothpicks I use for baking and I can easily access my ziploc bags without all the stuff getting in the way. And what is with the door knocker?

Now the second drawer is also much much more functional and look! You can see all my pot holders and everything has a place, even all the Chuck E. Cheese tickets we still need to use have a spot.

I am also giving away one of these fabulous organizing packs. An added bonus $1.00 off coupon for Rubbermaid products!

Tell me are your drawers out of hand like mine and in need of some time to get the chaos in order or would you like a more functional product like Rubbermaid’s no slip design to help keep your trays in place?

Rethink What Love Is

Leslie Blodgett is just a ball of fun if you ask me. When I reviewed her perfume line, I felt that her thought process in her campaigns for her products completely epitomizes a woman; I mean she really nails what life means to be a woman.

Her newest brain child is “Rethink What Matters” where women can participate in fun quizzes to let loose their thoughts and feelings. Maybe confess to some secrets you have held inside about love, finding yourself, even your views on politics. Each week a new topic and Leslie’s fabulous products will be featured as well as the option to enter to win more goodies!

This week the topic was love and public displays of affection. I offended myself by fighting to answer these the way I needed. The questions are cheeky and brutally honest in regard to maybe the simple flirtation in the office. But those events happen with people and by rethinking about how we act and how we can better ourselves is part of the fun and to see the results of other women taking the quiz.

So in conjunction with this week’s topic I have a giveaway!

I am giving away 1 Smoky Eye Tutorials from bareMinerals specifically for this campaign. Here’s how you can enter to win:

  1. Follow my blog and or subscribe AND then
  2. Leave me a comment to tell me how you are rethinking love as we come into Valentine’s Day. Are you a cynic for love (like me) or a die hard romantic? (This is a one comment entry)

For extra entries:

  1. Follow me on Twitter
  2. Tweet this giveaway being sure to include @KariewithaK so I see your tweets. 😉 (Tweet as much as you want as long as you have a comment in between your previous comment.)

Spray Away Germs: MyClyns Giveaway

Fall, Winter, and early spring always bring the crud. You know the crud? The sniffling, sneezing, germ spreading love fest that the seasons bring. Not to mention the fact that our children help to spread this by not always washing their hands or covering their mouths and faces when expelling their crud.

I personally load my kids up on vitamin C rich foods and we have taken stock in Kleenex and anti-bacterial gel. Not to mention my OCD takes over and anytime anyone is sick my home goes into full quarantine and I run around in the jumpsuit cleaning each room from top to bottom. Germs don’t stand a chance!

germ spray, sanitizer

So with all the oral expelling going on with our children I wondered what else I could do besides wear a plexiglass facial shield. Thank goodness for MyClyns. What is MyClyns (phonetic: mi-clinz)? MyClyns is a non-alcohol, fast-acting germ protection spray for those who have been in contact with airborne particles or bodily fluids (aka oral expelled of the nastiest kind).

I truly enjoyed this product because unlike the anti-bacterial gels, I was not worried about the harsh chemicals, burns, or any form of irritation. I was able to spray MyClyns right on my kids without any sort of worry about problem. Also I felt confident in that, “independent laboratory tests showed a 99.99% reduction in 60 pathogens including MRSA, E. Coli, and others” (MyClyns; RL&A, 2010) plus the FDA has cleared the solution in MyClyns as a medical device. As a “device” the MyClyns is so super convenient. Slip into any bag, purse, or even your pocket. Super sleek and slim design the MyClyns is about the size of a Sharpie so you can take it anywhere, even safe for airline travel.

You can purchase this product with a price point of $7.99 to $9.99 at your local CVS, Kroger’s brand stores, Wegman’s, and Bigg’s with more stores coming! Available in a 6mL container with approximately 60 sprays.

Now I get to share this wonderful product with you to help protect yourself and your family from everyone else’s cooties and crud. Here are the rules:

Leave me a comment and tell me what is your biggest cootie annoyance? People who don’t wash their hands? Sneeze on you? Or how about those spitters…you know the kind…the ones who talk like Daffy Duck and spooge all over you? Tell me about it!

Extra entries:

  • Fan MyClyns on Facebook and Each day fans will have the opportunity to answer germ-related questions that are posted on the wall. Every fan that responds and posts the correct answer will be entered into our daily prize drawing. The answers can all be found within the content on the Facebook page or on the MyClyns Web site at www.mygermspray.com In addition to the daily prizes Fans will also have an opportunity to compete for the title of “Germ Master of the Week” and win our special weekly prize as well. The winner will be the fan who answers the most questions correctly during the week. Fans can also keep track of how they are doing by checking out the Germ Knowledge Leader-Board that is posted on the main wall.
